Although the majority of population in Thailand is Buddhists, the Thai people keenly take part in Christmas celebrations in Thailand. Christmas is not a public holiday in Thailand. However, the festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm. The 'fun' element of the festive season is reflected in the eyes of the enthusiastic schoolchildren in Thailand, who celebrate the festival by singing, dancing and by playing various Christmas party games on Christmas. Christmas in Bangkok, the capital and the economic, political and social centre of Thailand, is celebrated with the display of glowing city lights and attractive Christmas decorations. Stalls selling Christmas goodies and decorations are opened up as Christmas approaches. Christmas lights by the roadside in Bangkok is a visual treat for the Thai people at Christmas. Christmas songs are played in shopping malls all through the Christmas day and people dress up as Santa Claus. Beautifully decorated Christmas trees are also set up along the roadside of many streets.
