Whenever anyone says Xmas instead of Christmas we
think it is not the right way to say. Although it is a common
misconception that the term Xmas is disrespectful, its origins show
this not to be true. The Greek word for Christ is Xristos, and the
letter "X" was frequently used as a religious symbol. Thus
Xmas is merely an abbreviated form of the word Christmas and was
first used by Europeans in the 16th century. They began using the
first initial of Christ's name, 'X' in place of the word Christ in
Christmas as a shorthand form of the word. This abbreviation for
Christmas is of Greek origin. Although the early Christians
understood that X stood for Christ's name, later Christians who did
not understand the Greek language mistook 'Xmas' as a sign of
disrespect. This tradition began in the early Christian church.
Later on it was frequently used as a holy symbol. So the word 'X'
stands for holy and religious there is nothing wrong in it.
